CISM, increasingly used as a risk management strategy, is designed to help employers and employees deal with the effects of a traumatic event or critical incident. Perhaps the most recognized element of CISM is known as the Debriefing – a structured on-site individual or group intervention that occurs shortly after the event. Debriefings, led by experienced counselors, provide individuals an opportunity to discuss their feelings and thoughts about a distressing event in a controlled and rational manner.
